The Perils of Hiding Debt.

You can't hide it forever, it grows and grows and will eventually take control of your life.

It's the most horrible experience being told you are unfit to look after your own finances. Someone else telling you the obvious - you are in a mess and it's all your own fault. Well that really helps things doesn't it?

It's completely understandable why so often it get's to this point because debt is embarrassing isn't it?

Debt's a great big sign that says

"look at me I'm a dumb fool who can't count".

NO IT ISN'T.

DEBT DOES NOT MEAN YOU'RE WORTHLESS

Debt is debt. Most people are in it, some are fortunate not to be. Some are unfortunately in a lot of debt.

The only real problem with debt is when it becomes out of control and then human nature kicks in. 99% of us want to hide mistakes, it's what we do and most of the time we get away with it.

Debt however is something that can't be replaced like a broken plate or made good by a bunch of flowers, (although you could try and take flowers to your lender but I doubt it would work).

Because debt is a constant thorn in your life it affects just about every aspect of it. Reminders are everywhere - the phone, the post, shopping, TV, Radio.....you can't escape.

What happens when you try to hide DEBT?

I've come across a great many things in this business and there is a common pattern developing with those hiding debts.

Hiding from spouses
Most people that hide their debts are hiding them from spouses.

First to the post
The first sign is getting to the post first and hiding letters/bills/reminders

Cutbacks
Then there is cutting back on stuff like shopping and going out. This leads to a drop in social life and leads to depression and illness.

It's at this point where I've even seen people who have got 'rumbled' because they couldn't afford birthdays or anniversary presents. Usually this leads to a strain in relationships.

Illness
Eventually this constant stress leads to illness, lack of sleep and loss of libido. These are problems you can do without because you need to be at the top of your game to get out of the pickle.

Affecting Work
Outside the home the problem extends into work. With tiredness affecting the ability to concentrate, the job suffers.

Ironically people with these problems at work are overlooked for promotion because their bosses think their stress is based on the job and they can't cope, yet the fact is though that a payrise and promotion would actually go some way to solving the problems. It's catch 22.

Debt is a bully.

You can liken debt to a school bully. The more you try to ignore and avoid it, the worse it gets. The more money it takes from you and the more miserable you feel. But when you tackle the bully alone the problem can get worse and so the best option feels like just hiding the fact you are bullied. But when you tackle the bully with help, then that's what makes the difference.

I have taken on this bully and won. I now take on this bully for thousands of people and have won the fight for them too.

It's time to pick up that phone and call one of my team. They're really nice people, very well trained and know exactly what to do.
