How Long Does Debt Management Last?

 

Length of time you can expect a debt management plan to last

This is the big question for everyone but can only be answered when we know:

• how much you owe; and
• how much you can afford; and
• how much your creditors will accept as a monthly payment.

 

It sounds like a cop-out but you will find us open and transparent about our services. As soon as one our counsellors comes to visit you you'll soon realise we know exactly what we're talking about, what your actual debt problem really is and what options are open to you.

It is our aim to get everyone that comes to us totally debt free within 5 years.

 

I've heard i could be in debt management for the rest of my life

All our debt management plans try to get you out of debt as soon as possible. There is no benefit to us keeping you as a client for longer than necessary because our reputation is built on actually getting people out of debt.

Additionally it doesn't help our relationship with lenders if matters drag on for many years because they want accounts finalised as soon as possible too. If they trust us as a responsible intermediary that actually manages to get results then it puts us in a strong negotiating position for our clients. Thats you.

We are aware of people who, looking at their plans they have got from elsewhere, will be in debt management for many many years.

 

What if my circumstances change during the debt management plan timescale?

If you come into money you might be in a strong position to settle debts earlier in which case your debt free date could be sooner.

If you lose income then we can try to restructure your debts again or look at other options. If you have been doing well with your plan and your loss of income is temporary then you might be able to miss a few payments. That's the beauty of debt management from DCM - it's flexibility to deal with life.
