Think about what you're buying. It is something you really need or something that you want? A short term 'cheer-me-up' can lead to guilt about buying it. If you do buy something you don't need make sure you keep the receipt and don't be afraid to take it back

Soaring energy prices and people's expectations that their direct debits are covering costs are in for a nasty shock.

Because most energy bills are on estimated readings, when the real reading is done and calculated using the tariffs at that time, bills are much higher than anticipated.

In some cases, the CAB have found that people have owed over £1000 without even realising.

This is just another example of how stretched UK consumers are and the fine line between make ends meet and falling into the debt trap.
